Finished with bloglines subscriptions - General Genealogy

Bloglines Louisiana Genealogy Blogs Subscriptions - The blogroll
There are so many genealogy news and blogs out there that sifting through them all requires alot of time. I've finally finished adding to the bloglines subscriptions and have ended up with over 164 feeds. There are a few from Louisiana with the majority from the RootsWeb mailing lists and message boards. Much of the information posted to the Yahoo Group comes from other groups that I belong to and some of their messages and the other comes from various newsletters and Google searches. The RootsWeb mailing lists are not on the "links" page posted here.

RootsWeb Mailing Lists Search Issues? or Operator Issues?
I did run into a problem accessing a RootsWeb RSS feed from a mailing list today. It seems that Cameron Parish RSS feed did not work today and it is not listed on the Bloglines feeds due to that reason. You will have to access Cameron Parish mailing lists from the RootsWeb or the LAGenWeb site. The new LAGenWeb website may or may not allow you to link to its pages from now on as it has revamped its websites where all pages end up on http://www.lagenweb.net or http://www.lagenweb.org and are possibly no longer accessible from their own internet address. Every page seems to go through http://www.lagenweb.org and that is the only way to link to them. Evidently, this occurred due to a conflict of information from Ancestry. Another computer snafu that I encountered from RootsWeb inside their mailing list was that the search feature does not include the letter "A" even in quotes. For instance in the mailing list LAORLEANS I searched for "A. W. Richardson". The "A" was not included in the search query and all "W. Richardson's" were searched with no results. I will have to enquire further at RootsWeb as to the reason or find the correct operator to use to conduct the search properly to include "A." in "A. W. Richardson". If anyone has any insight into this - please email me!

Groups from around the net
I have found that Yahoo is one of the better Groups to use. MSN Groups and Google Groups seems to post either too slowly or not at all. I've encountered problems with posting messages at MSN as some genealogy messages are too long for MSN Groups to handle. There are a few active MSN groups in genealogy, however, the majority reside on Yahoo. Yahoo, unfortunately, has quite a few spammers in their groups that are more than annoying. Louisiana Genealogy Blogs @ Yahoo Groups has not encountered any spammers, yet. (Keep your fingers crossed!)

Surfing Genealogy News Feeds - August 15, 2007

There are a number of groups on line that this blog is linked to over the internet. I've used a variety in order to attempt to gather Louisiana and Southeastern bloggers of genealogy and news. Yahoo Groups, Google Groups, and MSN Groups are among those. Yahoo Groups is the main site. You can find these links on Geocities where there is also a genealogy news reader on Bloglines.

Welcome

Louisiana Genealogy Blog is attempting to gather genealogy bloggers in Southeastern US and Louisiana. It is associated with Yahoo Groups of the same name and has other Group affiliations on Google, MSN and a site on Geocities that links to a genealogy news feeder on Bloglines with over 60 genealogy blogs and news sites. The Louisiana news feeds link via RSS to this blog posts from Google alerts once a week. I'm not certain of which day of the week Google posts. Occasionally, I will post some general genealogy news here, but my main focus is on Louisiana. The Yahoo Groups page has links to Geocities Louisiana sites on , Yahoo Groups, WebRings, and MSN Groups about Louisiana. I have not found many news articles or feeds on Louisiana Genealogy, but I will be surfing newspapers for items of interest from across the state and making posts as I find them of interest. I would like other Louisiana Genealogy information submitted to this blog and have made the email post option public - I think! You can email to post to this blog Louisiana Genealogy news, family surname information, general genealogy info, and road blocks or questions, after joining the Yahoo Groups. The information for posting and for publication to this blog can be found on the Yahoo Groups site, Louisiana Genealogy Blogs.
