Le Comite, three genealogy networking sites, and a hurricane wiki

Judy Riffel has posted this website URL from the LAORLEAN mailing list. Le Comite des Archives de la Louisiana had to cancel its September 14th meeting due to Hurricanes Gustav and Ike. I was unable to confirm this even late last week with its website at the Louisiana Archives. Le Comite's pages would not appear and I was re-directed. This new URL offered the information that I had been looking for at the Archives.
Le Comite des Archives de la Louisiane http://www.lecomite.org/index.html.

Evidently, this is a new website for Le Comite de Archives de la Louisiane. I posted to LAORLEAN the fact that I could not find the Le Comite website at the Louisiana Archives links from posts I had made earlier this year about April or so.

There were still 1/4 of Louisianians without power because of GUSTAV just before IKE decided to threaten. I hope that everyone is okay. There is a USGenWebbers hurricanecontact group, if you would like to join it or post that you are okay. Another helpful website would be The Hurricane Info Center Ning and Wiki. The Ning is for volunteers who are organizing the Wiki. The Wiki has many resourceful websites and phone numbers.

Once upon a time I tested out Ancient Faces and created a Family Story. There were several Louisiana links available from the Ancient Faces link directory.

  • The Carroll Family - Grief Carroll was the first Carroll to come to Washington Parish, Louisiana. He served as a Confederate soldier in the Civil War.

  • Avoyelles Parish Surname Origins - A brief history of the major French surnames of Avoyelles Parish, Louisiana, many of them among the original European settlers of the French Lousiana Colony.

  • Cajuns - Cajun, Acadian, Creole and Louisiana genealogy, history and culture. Includes the Spanish period and the "Islenos" surnames.

  • I really enjoyed surfing Ancient Faces and looking for Louisiana related stories. I have added all of the surnames from my Yahoo! Group to my Ancient Faces profile and I am looking forward to seeing what Ancient Faces has to offer.

Here are some of the surnames that are being researched:Anderson, Anderson, Bast, Beaver, Beavers, BEIBER, Bollier, Bond, Bost, Brangato, Buchan, Chadwick, Choat, Choate, Clark, Clermont, Coffelt, Coffield, DeSoto, Dorris, Flores, Foreman, Gagne, Goodhart, GOODHEART, Guerrero, Hebert, Hodgen, Hodgens, Hodgin, Hodgins, Howell, Jeansonne, Johnson, Keel, Keele, Kell, Kellar, Keller, La Fitte, Lacobee, Laffitte, Lafitte, Langford, Lankford, Latham, Locaviche, Long, Maillieux, Mayou, Mayu, Miller, Morris, POUN(S), Pound, Pounds, Prudhomme, Quinterre, Rambin, Robleau, Roblo, Sanders, Seitz, Shadwick, Shoat, SITZ, Smith, St. Denis, St. Denys, Still, TAGART, Taggart, TAGGERT, Toups, Vowell, White, Williams, Y'Barbo
