Strother Re-union 2010
It is STROTHER REUNION time again for the DEACENDANTS of the 1840-1850's RAPIDES PARISH STROTHERS
the REUNION will be SATURDAY APRIL 24 2010 in the COMMUNITY CENTER (across the street from the the FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH) in downtown ELIZABETH ALLEN PARISH LA. ELIZABETH is about 10 miles WEST of OAKDALE ALLEN PARISH LA. TRAVELING on LA HWY 10 either WEST or EAST at the CROSSROAD of LA HWY 112 (BLINKING LIGHT) TURN SOUTH TO ELIZABETH (about 2 miles)
The doors open at 9:30 AM. MEAT will be provided, just bring a COVERED DISH
There will be a MEMORIAL SERVICE for FAMILY MEMBERS who have passed away since the 2009 REUNION.Please let us know of such cases known to you, so they can be included in the MEMORIAL SERVICE

St. Helena Parish is full of Millers today. I have two great-aunts (sisters)
who married MILLER brothers. I do not recognize any of the names in your
query, but for what it's worth: My grandfather's sister, Lucy Alma CHAPMAN
married Seymour MILLER, s/o Simon MILLER and Margaret FOREST. Seymour had
several brothers, Latimore, Fillmore, Theodore, and some other "mores".
Latimore marred Lucy's sister, Adeline CHAPMAN. They are all buried in
Hillsdale Baptist Church Cemetery not far from Amite, Louisiana. My CHAPMAN
genealogy contains 80 MILLER names, and my MORGAN gen. has 43.

There is an article in today's TP announcing that they are working on the air conditioning in the upstairs of the EB library. The reference room there will be closed for about a month.
Some reference materials will be available by 24 hour advanced request in reference downstairs.
Microfilm not available until after construction completed.
Just a heads up if anyone is planning a trip to that location.

Hi folks
I'm also having some trouble locating a family tomb/crypt. Mary
Dalton Sinclair died Feb. 23, 1924, and her son sent a telegram to his
family indicating that he would be burying his mother "in the family
crypt" at Metairie cemetery. I've been corresponding with a
descendant who managed to get a cemetery certificate #13310,
indicating that Mrs. Mary D. Sinclair was buried in Section 96, lot
142-143. However, the owner of the lot appears to be a Mrs. M. J.
Reise (possibly Reiss or even Russ). I've checked the cemetery index
which you wonderful folks make available, and I have found all three
of those names in Metairie (but not in that lot), and Mary D.
Sinclair's name isn't recorded with any one of them. We have no idea
how she might be related to any one of these names, as her maiden name
was Smith (or possibly Dalton, and Smith was from a previous
marriage). There isn't a record of a Sinclair plot that I can find,
so I'm really at a loss as to where she is buried. Does anyone have
any suggestions or ideas?

Saturday at 10 am, the Algiers Historical Society will present Algiers native Michael Henderson - a terrific writer, speaker and historian. He'll be discussing his Creole ancestry and some amazing discoveries from his research, which has included at least one recent trip to France. The free event will be held at the Carriage House behind the Courthouse. Do come by to enjoy the presentation, coffee and goodies.
Also Treasures from the Point, the worlds best porch sale, will be happening throughout the Point on Saturday. Hazel and the Delta Ramblers, Algiers Point’s favorite old time/bluegrass band, will be playing from 9-12 on the porch of one of the participating houses. See if you can find them.
Finally, RiverFest is happening both Saturday and Sunday, right outside the Courthouse! The schedule is in the files section under Algiers.

On May 17, the speaker will be Kara Brockman from the Notarial Archives. Please mark your calendar for these two meetings.

I found this site interesting. I have an Meso-Indian point which looks much like the first one pictured here from the crt website. Of course, it was found near a creek and a local Louisiana river. According to the site, the Indians of this era traveled extensively near water sources.
